Turnstiles are mechanical gates used to control and regulate the flow of people in various environments. Commonly found in subways, stadiums, amusement parks, and secure facilities, they serve as both a crowd management tool and a security measure. These barriers allow passage of one person at a time, thereby preventing unauthorized access and ensuring orderly movement.

Turnstiles come in various designs, including tripod, optical, full-height, and waist-high variants. Tripod turnstiles are the most traditional, featuring three rotating arms. Optical turnstiles use sensors to detect authorized passage, allowing for a more seamless and contactless experience. Full-height turnstiles provide a high level of security, resembling a revolving door.

In addition to controlling access, turnstiles often integrate with ticketing and identification systems, making them an essential component in automated entry solutions. They enhance efficiency and security while reducing the need for personnel at entry points. As technology evolves, turnstiles continue to adapt, incorporating features like biometric authentication and real-time data collection to further enhance their functionality.
